Candidates Battle in First Debate of N.Y.C. Mayor Race

Zohran Mamdani, Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa traded bitter personal attacks on Thursday to win over voters ahead of the Nov. 4 election.

“Mr. Cuomo lies again and again and again.” “He literally has never had a job. On his resume it says he interned for his mother.” “You [Cuomo] lost your own primary, right? You were rejected by your Democrats.” “Making buses fast and free costs about $700 million a year.” “Everything you want that’s going to be free, free, free. It’s a fantasy. Let’s deal with the reality.” “Jews don’t trust that you are going to be there for them when they are victims of antisemitic attacks.” “There was a report that was done that had allegations of harassment. I said at the time it was a political report, and that there was no basis to it. It was then sent to five district attorneys. They all reviewed it. They found nothing.” “You can be tough, but you can’t be tough if it’s going to cost people desperately needed federal funds.”
